Get Involved
Every year, more than a million people represent themselves in Georgia courts. Litigants who are unfamiliar with the court system and its rules face negative outcomes with lasting consequences. If the mission of Athens Access to Justice speaks to you, here’s how you can get involved!

Pop-up Clinics
Pop-up Clinics are an opportunity for attorneys and non-attorneys alike to give back to their community.
Attorneys give limited scope advice under Georgia Bar Rule 6.5 without committing to full representation. Attorneys are needed in a wide range of specialties, and volunteers are welcome from Western Judicial Circuit and other circuits. Athens-area judges are on hand to explain the jurisdiction of their courts and provide common legal forms.
Help close the access to justice gap while furthering your ethical duties under Georgia Bar Rule 6.1!
Non-attorneys such as paralegals, clerks, interpreters, and students also provide invaluable support at Pop-up Clinics by greeting visitors, matching them with the correct type of attorney, interpreting for non-English speakers, and helping with legal forms. Law students and undergraduates interested in law may volunteer to shadow an attorney during a clinic.
All volunteers are required to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Court Navigation
Court Navigation volunteers staff the Self-Help Desk at the Athens-Clarke Courthouse Law Library. Court Navigators help visitors with court forms and provide procedural information. They do not give substantive legal advice.
